Beauty has-beens are back—at least at Marc Jacobs’ fall 2009 show. “The hair and makeup is quite out there,” admits Guido, Redken’s creative consultant, mane master for the production. “Too much gel, too much spray, too much teasing—it begs the question of what is good taste?” So why recreate the overstyled dos of the ’80s? “Marc was fed up with the ponytail and the knot, and he just wanted to do something crazy,” says Guido.

To mimic the structured nature of Jacobs’ collection, Guido “formed shapes out of the hair by scrunching it just right.”

After the Indian-inspired collections 2008 brought us i.e. Lancôme Maharani Jewels and Manish Arora for M.A.C Cosmetics, Givenchy is gearing up to launch its spring summer 2009 collection in July, drawing exotic influences from the Bollywood genre. Inspired by Indian beauty, make-up artist Nicolas Degennes created an extravagantly colourful range of key products in pinks, oranges, golds and silvers.
