Dry Hands Care

Posted by admin On November - 29 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Struggling with dry hands can be pretty painful.
Even if you are diligent about keeping them protected when doing housework or gardening, and unfailingly apply moisturizer whenever the opportunity arises, you can still suffer from bone-dry, cracked, parched hands.

It is still of vital importance to protect your hands from dish detergent, laundry detergent, excessive washing, and irritating ingredients, and also when doing potentially irritating manual activities such as yard work or sports.
Wearing gloves to prevent contact with these types of products and ingredients is of the utmost importance.
However, a significant number of women may find they are allergic to latex gloves.

The faster you get an emollient moisturizer on your hands after washing, and the longer you can keep it on, the better. (Note: Any good, emollient moisturizer will work—it does not have to be labeled “hand cream

” to be used on the hands.)
It helps to keep small tubes or bottles of moisturizer all over the house, including near the kitchen sink, in the bathroom, at the bedside, and in the garage.

Keep more in your car, purse, briefcase, and desk drawer. That way it is never out of reach for a quick application.
The best moisturizers for daytime are moisturizing sunscreens whose active ingredient is avobenzone, titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide.

Tips To Reduce Redness On Cheeks

Posted by admin On November - 29 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Redness on the cheeks can often be uncomfortable and often embarrassing. Some people are born with a “peaches and cream” complexion which means that their natural skin tone contrasts heavily with the blood vessels in the face – causing a more prominent redness.

However, there are plenty of ways to avoid or significantly reduce the redness on your cheeks by following these 10 simple yet effective tips.

They work because I tried them all myself and many people who I have spoken to who also suffer from facial redness have also tried these techniques out and would agree.

1. Exercise daily for at least 30 mins
Exercise is a proven method to regulate the blood pressure and flow in our bodies along with a reduction in stress levels which can also lead to aggravated redness in the cheeks. It also helps to eliminate excess unused energy which can also trigger blushing and facial redness.

2. Drink plenty of water
This works for me, it helps to keep the general body temperature down and is something anxiety sufferers are told to do as part of their recovery plan. Try to drink at least a few pints a day or more if you can. I know it’s not glamorous but hey, it really does help.

3. Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a really good way to relax and control our body and mind in one. If you can train your mind and body to act and react in an appropriate way, you will certainly notice a reduction in the severity of blushing, redness and even sweating among many other similar problems.

4. Relaxation in general
Giving you time to relax each day will work wonders for your blood pressure, stress levels and general health. Having a generally red face doesn’t mean you are unhealthy but if you find that your redness comes and goes often it could be a sign that your body isn’t happy with the way you’re driving it. Try it.

5. Reduce stress
Again, reducing stress via all the previous points can be detrimental to the reduction of redness in your face, the anxiety that surrounds it and the likelihood that it will continue to get worse.

How to Clean Diamonds at Home

Posted by admin On November - 27 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Diamonds are indeed the most inspiring of all precious stones, taking care of them however, will ensure that their sparkling brilliance will continue to impress. A few tips on caring for your diamonds are shared below.

Cleaning to ensure a brilliant sparkle

Dust and small particle build-up on the surface of the stones may cause a dull appearance. To return the shine take a warm bowl of water and soak the diamonds for an hour or two. Use a small and soft bristle brush to remove the dirt and grime. You can add a mild detergent to the water to help break up fatty deposits. Be sure to rinse the stones well by making use of a tiny-hole strainer to contain the stones while rinsing them. Don’t rub the stones to dry them, rather pat them dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

Extreme cleaning

If the diamonds are extremely dull, you may need to use a solution of half ammoniac and half water. Soak the stones for 20 minutes and then remove them from the solution. Use a soft bristled brush to remove dirt and grime. Rinse and pat dry in the same way as described previously.

Tiffany & Co., the world’s second largest luxury jewelry retailer, slashed its annual forecast after third quarter profit fell and jewelry sales dropped for the first time in almost seven years amid the global financial crisis, Bloomberg reported.

US jewelry sales at stores open at least a year worsened in November from October and may fall at most 35% in the fourth quarter, CFO James Fernandez said.

The fine jewelry retailer suspended share buybacks and said it would reduce capital spending, slow store openings and cut staff as consumers pull back on discretionary purchases amid sinking stock and home values.

“People will focus on the guidance,” David Schick, an analyst with Stifel Nicolaus & Co., said in an interview with Bloomberg. “What they said, which was most important, was that November continued to slip.

Things in luxury spending are very bad now. The question is, will they get better in February or later?” The Baltimore-based Schick recommends investors hold the shares.

Protect Your Skin Against the Cold Weather

Posted by admin On November - 25 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

It is a common fact that excessive sun exposure can be damaging to your skin. However, cold weather can take its toll on your skin, too, especially if you have sensitive or dry skin. The lower temperatures outside, increased windiness and the fact you are turning up the thermostat in your home can all make your skin chapped, flaky, blotchy, dry and itchy.

During the summer, we are more prone to take care of our skin because of the constant need for topical relief measures such as sunscreen and insect repellent. However, the winter is the season when our skin actually needs the most extra care. To help your skin to survive the brutality of the season, keep in mind the following simple winter skin care tips:

1. Continue to use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or better. Although you may not feel it as much, the sun can be just as powerful when reflecting off the snow or while taking a long walk outdoors as it is on a summer day at the beach. A convenient suggestion is to use a moisturizer or foundation with a built-in sunscreen everyday.

2. Use a mild cleanser as opposed to soap, which can strip your skin of the essential oils it needs.

3. Though you may not be as thirsty as during the summer, continue to drink lots of water to provide the necessary hydration to your skin.

4. Avoid products with high alcohol content, heavy perfumes or other additives that can irritate your sensitive, dry skin.

5. During the cold weather, you might want to try using a thicker, richer moisturizer, two to three times per day, to help your skin to adequately replenish the moisture it loses.

How to Apply Blush for Different Face Shapes

Posted by admin On November - 25 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Blush Application Tip One: Oval Face

This face type typically does not need any contouring at all since the natural slope of the face already provides a perfect plane to apply blush. For a natural look, apply blush onto the apples of your cheeks for a flushed, healthy glow. If you are going out for a night on the town, add slightly more blush to the bridge of your nose for extra color.

Blush Application Tip One: Square Face

For this face shape, soften the angles of cheeks by concentrating the brighter color of the blush on the apples of the cheeks, then sweep the color straight out towards your temples. This will give your face a natural lift. If you want to round the corners of your jawline, lightly dust some blush from your chin to just below your ears.

Blush Application Tip One: Round Face

Start applying blush to the area just above the apples of your cheeks and slightly blend forward to thin the face. Make sure not to get blush too close to your nose; otherwise, the extra color will highlight the rounded area of the cheeks. Next, dust the contour shade just below the cheekbone down to the jawline and blend the color so it looks natural.

Foot Care

Posted by admin On November - 23 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Your feet are multifarious structures, which may reflect your general health and comfort. Symptoms such as persistent pain or soreness are warning signs. If, for example, you neglect a painful joint, it can deteriorate and become acutely painful. Then you may start walking badly to avoid the pain and that can lead to more serious postural problems.

  • Wear footwear that supports the foot properly, reducing the chance of injury.
  • Don’t wear the same shoes every day.
  • Choose footwear made of natural materials to help your feet to breathe.
  • Air trainers before and after exercise to prevent build up of bacteria.
  • If you suffer from knee, hip or back pain, which has resisted treatment, consider visiting a state-registered chiropodist. Sometimes a small structural or functional imbalance in the foot may cause problems further up the body. What you wear on your feet can affect you further up your body.
  • Change stockings or socks at least once a day. Choose socks containing at least 70 per cent cotton or wool. Some socks made from man-made fibers can help keep sweat away from the skin, keeping the skin dry and reducing odor.

    Foundations Secrets

Posted by admin On November - 21 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

    1. For a natural look your foundation must match your skin tone. Test foundations along your jawline. You will know the best color because it will disappear into your skin.

    2. Spread foundation on your hands and pat it on your face, then smooth out with a sponge making sure not to pull or stretch the skin. Be extra careful in the area around your eyes where the skin is super thin. Don’t forget to apply foundation on your eyelids and lips.

    3. To make foundation last apply moisturizer first giving the foundation a base. Dry skin will soak up the foundation if not given that base. For oily skin use an oil-free moisturizer and powder foundation

    4. On hot days foundation can be difficult to keep looking fresh. Set your foundation in the morning using a loose powder and puff, then do regular touch ups throughout the day.

    5. To cover imperfections apply foundation first and then go back and dot on a concealer that neutralizes red. For noticeable imperfections like very dark circles and birthmarks use a yellow concealer (available from Mary Kay). Don’t use too much powder in problem areas because it will draw attention to it.

It has been told that Coco Chanel contracted Ernest Beaux, a respected perfumer, to create six types of perfume for her to choose from. Beaux labeled the perfumes Numbers 1 through 6. The Number 5 bottle attracted Coco Chanel and was eventually chosen as her favorite formula of all six. Thus the perfume was named Chanel No.5.

Chanel No.5, according to the great Coco Chanel is a perfume that doesn’t only adds to the beauty of a woman but more importantly enhances her whole personality. Chanel No.5 is a known for its long lasting fragrance that heavily relies on jasmines.

The famous perfume of Chanel had also made an impact not only in the fashion world but also in the entertainment industry. In the year 1950, Marilyn Monroe became its first American endorser that considerably boosted the sales of the perfume. Her answer in an interview about what she usually wore in bed- “why, Chanel No.5, of course”- became a notorious quotation for women who wishes to express their sensuality with the help of the perfume.

In 1970, Catherine Deneuve became the perfumes’ spokes-model. Then it was Nicole Kidman’s turn as its spokes-model in the early 2000. And most recently, the French actress Audrey Tautou got the most coveted role in the perfume business.

    Removing Dye from Hair

    Posted by admin On November - 19 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

How to remove dye from hair which is designed to … well, dye, change the color of, alter stuff. And it does it – very well.

Trouble comes when it gets on places you don’t want it – like your face, or clothes, or carpet.

Or you decide that the color ‘to die for’ just did.

There are some commercial products to remove dye from hair, and a few home potions and processes.

Color Fix by Jheri Redding is designed to remove unwanted permant hair color, and controlled usage allows color correction to specific areas, either full or slight color corrections.

Loreal Color Zap gently washes away all permanent haircolor. Ideal for color correction, removal of dark shades, muddy, uneven results or color build up. Leaves hair ready for immediate re-coloring. Loreal Effasol Color Remover washes away permanent haircolor, leaving hair ready for recoloring. Can be used with water or developer.

Jerome Rusell’s Punky Color Punk Off is an easy to use gel that will cleanse your skin from hair dye stains.

Roux Clean Touch is a gentle formula that removes haircolor from skin and scalp. Removes excess color from hair ends and assists in removing stains from clothing.

    Home remedies include this one:

Hot Oil treatments, hairspray, shampooing and exposure to water will gradually fade hair dye.

To remove the last bit of residue or stain on the hair (or to get color out immediately) make up a small batch of bleach mixture and add it to 2 tablespoons or so of shampoo in a cup. Stir it up.

Shampoo your hair with this mixture, “kneading” the hair. Start at the roots and work your way down to the end, and then back up.
