Tips for Healthy Hair

Posted by admin On December - 8 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

No matter what type of hair nature blessed you with, there are things you can do to keep it healthy, lustrous, looking its best. Here are some tips for a healthy head of hair.

  1. Like everything else about true, lasting beauty, healthy hair begins within your body. Start with your diet. Include lots of green leafy vegetables and sweet juicy fruits. Dairy products such as milk and fresh yogurt will also help. Fresh coconut is also considered excellent “hair food” – sprinkle grated coconut over salads, diced fresh fruit, or rice.

  2. Cut down on refined, processed and canned foods. Ayurveda considers foods with artificial preservatives and chemical additives stripped of their inherent “intelligence” and therefore not helpful in supplying nutrition to your body and mind. Ice-cold beverages also hamper the process of digestion and assimilation of nutrients.

  3. Cooking with certain spices adds flavor to your food and provides nourishment for your hair. Cumin, turmeric and black pepper are some “hair-friendly” spices. Add a healthy pinch of each to single-portion soups and stews as they are cooking. Sauté 1/8 –1/4 teaspoon each of the three spices in a teaspoon of ghee (clarified butter) or olive oil and add to cooked veggies. Roasted ground cumin and ground black pepper can be sprinkled over fresh yogurt.

  4. Stress can be seriously injurious to long-term health and color of hair. Try and manage your time and tasks to minimize time-related pressures. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation. Seek out tranquil sights in nature to help restore balance to your mind. Relaxing or uplifting music can be therapeutic. Get adequate, good quality sleep to help the natural process of rejuvenation.

  5. Ayurvedic herbs that help hair health include Eclipta alba and Gotu Kola. Eclipta alba is called “Bhringaraj” – literally, king of tresses. It nourishes the hair and helps resistance to stress as well. Brahmi, sometimes called Gotu Kola, also helps balance the mind and nourishes the hair and scalp. Since Ayurveda considers the health, color and luster of hair so dependent on overall mind/body health, synergistic Ayurvedic herbal preparations for hair can also include herbs such as Country Mallow, which is supposed to strengthen the physiology, and Winter Cherry, which aids resistance to stress.

How to Use Under-Eye Concealers

Posted by admin On December - 8 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Concealers are applied to cover dark circles around the eyes, thereby grweatly enhancing the appearance of the face. They are matched to the skin tone and are applied before using the harmony foundation. When any product is applied around the eyes, special care must be taken so that the skin is not stretched.Instead of applying the cream from the inside corner of the eye to the outside it should be dabbed on the skin and then gently blended with the finger tips moving from the outside corner to the inside corner. This procedure will not pull the skin. After the product has dried, more can be applied to build up the desired opacity. To remove, use a cosmetic cleanser, instead of vigorously rubbing the skin with soap and water.

Nail Care

Posted by admin On December - 8 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Your nails may be small but they play an important role, serving to help protect your fingers and improve dexterity. They also may reveal clues to your general health. Women spend hours painting and decorating them. Beauty salons offer all kinds of services for them. But keeping your nails clean and healthy is a simple matter that doesn’t cost much. Sometimes, all it takes is a little common sense. Take a close look at your nails. Are they strong and healthy looking? Or do you see ridges, dents or areas of unusual color or shape? Many less than desirable nail conditions can be avoided through proper care, but some actually indicate an illness that requires attention.

To keep your nails attractive and avoid undesirable problems like fungal infections that can make your nails ugly and deformed, here are some tips to consider:

Use your nails properly. Nails protect the ends of fingers and toes and help us pick up things. Don’t abuse them by using them as a can opener, staple remover, screwdriver or scraper.

While watching tv, moisturize your hands AND nails with your favorite hand lotion. It’s not only relaxing, it helps strengthen the nails.

Don’t bite them. Some people have a nasty habit of biting their fingernails. This not only ruins their appearance but damages the nail bed and puts you at risk for infection. If you’re hungry, head for the nearest deli and order your favorite meal. You’ll be doing your nails a big favor.

Keep your nails clean. You may have the looks and the most expensive suit. But if your nails are dirty, you’re no better than a monkey! Dirty nails turn people off and reflect your personality so make sure they always look their best. Trim them and clean under the nails regularly. Use a good pair of manicure scissors and an emery board to smoothen nail edges.

It is also a good idea to have some cotton swabs handy, in case you get nail polish on your skin.
