Fall 2009 Fashion Rio Week in Rio de Janiero

Rio de Janeiro – Fafa Cosenza, the designer of Rio label Tessuti showed that one can be sophisticated and yet true to one’s roots in one of the most polished collections yet seen in Brazil, staged in Rio.

Using the strictest of palates – black, blood orange, sinful red and more black – Cosenza created a truly chic Fall 2009. Though it was a trifle derivative, one can forgive that when the looks are so good.

Made in classy fabrics like silk faille, calico and shantung and cut with a precise surgical scalpel, these were grand yet not stuffy clothes.

Sleekly cut, lean cocktail dresses jazzed up with lace inserts and semi-sheer panels, paneled felt wool suits and one grand opening and big shouldered gown worn by Isabeli Fontana were the highlights of this highly exportable collection.

Fall 2009 Fashion Rio Week in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro – In many ways, the single greatest contribution Brazil has made to international fashion is the exceptional quality of its fabrics, an attribute brilliantly displayed in two snappy and clever collections staged Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro.

The sheer effort local creatives put into developing rich new materials was never more evident than in the morning show of Printing, a 15-year-old label from the northern state of Minas Gerais that was making its runway debut.

Staged in a fantastic, old redbrick downtown factory, the show featured fabulous, fresh fabrics – combinations of exotic plant and fauna melded into in marbleized and volcanic patterns.

“We are after strong sensations,” said Printing’s designer Marcia Queiroz, who explained to FWD that many of the luscious silks required seven printings in order to get the depth of color she demanded.
