MAC & Marcel Wanders Team Up for November

Posted by admin On August - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Come November 24th, Marcel Wanders–industrial designer extraordinaire–will team up with MAC Cosmetics in their annual couture/luxe collection.  In case you’re unfamiliar, this luxe launch anniversarizes such collections as StylisticsMonogram, and Baroque Boudoir.

These luxe collections are always priced significantly higher than your typical MAC collectio (e.g. $22 for a lipgloss) — I don’t have many details on products or pricing here, but if the theme/preliminary image grabs you, just beware that you’ll need to set aside a lil’ more than usual.  The compact looks to be the Sheer Mystery Powder, which they launch in every luxe collection.  There is also Air of Style concentrated perfume, a specially packaged brush (looks like the 187), clutch, and four lipsticks and lip glosses to round it out.

While it’s easy to get swept up by pretty Fall makeup trends, NARS Cosmetics reminds us that having a stash of easy-to-wear basics is just as sweet. It’s an investment you definitely want to make before thinking about other extras.

If you’re new to makeup or don’t have a grounded collection quite yet, take a look at these NARS Fall Palettes next time you drop by Nordstroms. The value is exceptional and I can imagine you would get a great deal of use out of the colors.

Above is NARS ‘Only You’ Eye and Cheek Palette ($65 US) which is packaged in a compact zippered case for switching up your look quickly.

Choose from four pigmented eye shadows:

Alhambra, a metallic rose mist

Mekong, an espresso fused with gold

Eurydice, an electric aubergine

Pandora, a matte black

In addition, play up your cheeks with two blushes:

Hungry Heart, an iridescent gold ivory

Orgasm, a peachy pink with shimmer

In the Groove features five different blush duos, and there is a good range of colors in the collection. Happy Together and Hang Loose are the most wearable of the five, while A Little Bit of Sunshine and Band of Roses are the most pigmented and should be used with a light hand or stippling brush. New Vibe is a bit more of a glittery mix than the others, which have more luminous/soft satin sheens.

  • A Little Bit of Sunshine is an orange-y bronze duo — it features a shimmery orange-copper with a frost finish paired with a orange-toned medium brown with a satin finish. Together, they blend to create a muted orange-brown with soft sheen. It would better suit warmer skin tones, just because it does run rather orange. On my skin, it turns a little orange and definitely needs to be buffed out and used lightly.
  • Happy Together contains gilded champagne and peach-brown, and together they create a soft champagne-peach. Very luminous. I think this works well on warm skin tones for a little glow–more as a highlighter than intensely pigmented blush, though. It looks like a subtle bronzer on my skin. I think that you can go lighter/darker with ease, since you just have to focus on one half of the duo.
  • New Vibe is a duo that features a satin-y raspberry pink and shimmery bright copper with microglitter. When swirled together, they create a muted raspberry shade. I don’t really like the way they come together–it’s kind of muddy, even when worn. It’s not as pigmented as the other shades, too, when mixed.

Burberry Peony (04) Blush ($42.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a dim neutral pinkish which can be sheered out for only a spirit of color or layered for a some-more intense, doll-like look.  This is unequivocally the softest of the 3 blushes I’ve seen (the alternative dual being Russet and Cameo), and I think it most appropriate suits light to light-medium skin tones, with middle skin tones saying a soft demeanour overall.  I think deeper skin tones will find it doesn’t do most to their skin tinge but a good volume of layering.

“The beauty of the palettes is that you can create many looks ranging from neutral to dramatic. For a neutral look, use shades 1 and 3. To add more color, blend shades 2 and 4 to your desired intensity and line the eye with shade 5. I want women to play and have fun with the colors!” – Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director, Estée Lauder.

Introducing the new vision in color for the Fall 2010 season, the Blue Dahlia Pure Color Collection for smoldering eyes, shimmering lips and bold nails. Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux debuted his inspiration for this collection backstage at the Derek Lam Autumn/Winter 2010 Fashion Show.

With inspiration taken from three iconic women – Kiki de Montparnasse, Sarah Bernhardt and Edith Wharton, Aaron de Mey’s collection for Lancome is all about emancipation – freedom, if you like, to be confident with how you look. He’s used vampish cherry reds as the core shade.

Probably the most special products in the collection are the Ombres Magnetiques that use next-generation textures and coated pearl pigments. The pearl pigments make up 40% of the formula – that is some dazzle! And, I’ve heard they should last up to 24 hours. It’s available in three shades; Cherry Chérie, Urban Silver and Black Macadam.
