Lipstick: Tips

Posted by admin On December - 28 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

1. Apply color onto the center of your lips, blending up and out to the lip line working towards the corners.
2. For longer lasting color, gently blot with tissue, reapply lipstick and blot again.
3. For evening, remember to select a lipstick one or two shades deeper than your daytime color.

Tip: For a creamy effect, apply a lip balm to lips before applying lipstick.

Tip: For a matte effect, apply lipstick then blot gently with tissue.

Tip: For a sheer effect, apply lip balm. Gently dot a small amount of neutral color lipstick across lips, then smooth out.

Tip: For a glossy effect, apply lipstick then finish with a clear or nuetral color gloss coat for a moist, seductive shine. Remember, the more coats you apply, the more shine so turn up the volume!

Tip: For smooth, soft lips, take a clean damp washcloth and gently rub lips for 60 seconds before applying lipstick.

Tip: For touch-ups during the day or night, carry a soft toothbrush in your handbag or makeup kit. Be sure to brush your lips gently.

Lipstick Applying Is An Art

Posted by admin On October - 31 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Applying lipstick is an art for many women. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lipstick veteran or a newbie, it never hurts to learn more tips and tricks for lipstick application. As popular as lipstick continues to be, you can be certain that the number of tips for application will only grow. But that works in your favor since the more you know, the better your end result will turn out.

The next time you’re out shopping for new lipstick or are about to put some on, take a look at the following tips for a fun and new twist on makeup.

Did you know that you can use your favorite lipstick as blush? Of course you don’t want your checks to end up looking like a Raggedy Ann doll. You don’t need a lot of lipstick. You can use your fingertip to apply the color onto your cheeks and blend gently with a sponge applicator until the color naturally fades into your complexion. Be sure to use the right shade and if it isn’t already obvious, while lipstick can serve as blush when needed, the process doesn’t work the other way around.

All women have at least one or two tubes of lipstick that contain a shade they aren’t happy with and will most likely never use. But instead of throwing it into the trash, recycle! Sometimes the greatest lip colors can be made by blending one or more shades of lipsticks you don’t care for. Not only can you come up with colors that meet your needs, you’ll also have a shade that is unique and can’t be found in any store.

For those who wear lip liner but can never quite get it right, don’t worry about following traditional makeup rules of applying liner before lipstick. There is nothing wrong with doing the exact opposite. Some women find that it is difficult to find the natural line of their lips but once the color is filled in, the lines tend to become more noticeable. So next time fill in your lips first and then go back over them with your liner for the perfect pout.

Antiageing Lipstick Lip Protection

Posted by admin On October - 16 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Women of course know the importance of lips to their appearance and by using lipstick they go to some lengths to make them more prominent, more attractive and appealing to the opposite sex. Yes women know the significance of lips and how to bring attention to them.

Apply a film of lipstick. But lipstick should do more than attract a potential mate or accentuate the lips’ fullness and beauty. According to a Bangkok Post report, lipstick also has a part in helping to protect the lips’ delicate skin. We slap sun protection on our faces and bodies when sunbathing but our poor lips are often ignored and many of us fail to protect them properly. Lips though are as prone to environmental damage as the rest of the facial skin, and unlike the rest of the body which can be covered and protected from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, lips are constantly on show and always vulnerable to sun and environmental damage.

So it is just as important to protect lips from UV damage. There are two types of ultraviolet rays UVA and UVB that can damage lips and contribute to ageing; UVA damages the deeper skin tissues and UVB the more superficial layers. But both will reduce the amount of collagen, elastin and hyarulonic acid all three are plentiful in youthful lips but are not so abundant in the more mature.

Protecting lips with a broad spectrum sunscreen will keep them safe, soft and attractive. Because of its position the bottom lip is more vulnerable to sun damage and skin cancer. Many women will pay attention to the signs of ageing around the eyes noticing the development of crows’ feet and of fine lines on the forehead that announce the onset of maturity. Many will go to lengths to delay their onset, by applying anti-ageing or anti-wrinkle creams, but many women will also forget that the lips are also important structures in showing the progress of ageing.

choosing the lip color

Posted by admin On October - 3 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Be careful while choosing the lip color and try it out in a cosmetic salon first and let them assist you in your color choices. For women with large lips, muted colors such as purples, browns and bronzes are the best choices while women with thinner lips should use light colors. Wine, berry, cappuccino and mauve colors suit light blondes best while coral, apricot and shades of peach are suitable for blondes that have a golden hue. Warm peach, brown and terracotta shades are for blondes that sport olive skin tones. Redheads may use warm colors such as shades of terracotta, cinnamon and peachy brown while shades such as terracotta, cinnamon and reds with hints of brown are the most suited colors for brunettes.

Make your lipstick smudge resistant and matte by blotting the excess color on lips using one sheet of two-ply tissue, reapplying the lipstick and blotting it again to absorb the excess oils. Mature women should not use matte lipsticks though, for a little gloss can make their lips appear softer and lip liner will keep the lipstick from melting. In case, the lip color or brush slips from your hands accidentally and stains your clothes, apply the glycerine on the area and rub it gently, before washing it as usual. For an instant makeover, try a pink creamy blush to add rosy ness to your cheeks and lids and use plump shade on your lips and you are ready to flaunt your beauty.

A clear lip balm is the best thing for everyday use while sheer application of a colored lip gloss on lips, cheeks and eyes looks quite subtle and sexy. Glitter lipsticks and lip glosses are for special events and funky night parties that highlight your lips immensely.

Selection Of Lipsticks

Posted by admin On August - 22 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Lipstick in various forms, has been around for about 5000 years as it is the easiest way to add an instant splash of colour and give focus to your face. The main problem though, is that there is no perfect colour that suits everyone. There are no perfect shades, brands or formulas but these guidelines can help any woman to express her mood or personality as she chooses the lipstick that is right for her.

Sheer lipsticks: are more universal than opaque lipsticks and are more flattering as they allow your own lip colour to be seen underneath. They do not last as long as some other formulas although they are very moisturising and easy to wear. A happy medium can be found in the cream lipsticks but as these are more opaque you will find yourself having to be more discerning when choosing your colours.

Shimmer lipsticks: last for longer than sheer formulations and can flatter the wearer of any age, unlike the shimmery eye shadows or blushers. Due to the light reflecting qualities, lips will look fuller but be warned that shimmer formulations look ghastly on dry or chapped lips.

Matte lipsticks: are the formulas that last for longer than any other and are a good selection to make bold statements with. The main problem with this type of lipstick is that they dry the lips out quite quickly and as such should not really be worn if you have dry or chapped lips already.

Lip colours can be found in many styles of applicator but by far the most popular are the ones that come in a stick in bullet shaped holders. As lips are quite sensitive to the sun, the lipstick formulations that have built-in sunscreens are very useful. Lip-gloss can be used to add an attractive gleam to your lips when used on its own, or to catch the light if applied over your normal lipstick.

If you want to mark an outline to your lips before applying lipstick then a lip liner is the best method (this also helps to stop ‘bleeding’) and is designed for just this purpose. For a darker matte effect just apply a lip liner over the whole of your lip area. A word of caution if you do decide to use this method though is that you may need to apply a lip salve over the top to avoid drying out your lips.

Choosing a Colour:

There are many traditions that help in the selection of lipstick colours. Some of these say that you should choose rich, deep colours such as burgundy or plum reds in winter and lighter, more pastel tones such as pinks or lavenders in spring. Summer months herald the need for sheer or glossy formulations and autumn is the time for brown-based earthy colours. All this said, lipsticks are used as an expression of yourself so you don’t have to follow tradition if you don’t want to – go ahead and experiment.

Colour Guidelines:

People with a fair complexion will find that a small amount of colour will go a long way. Over the top, bright colours will look a mess so stick to nudes, beige tones, light corals or light pinks. Sheer formulas prove to be the most flattering here.

Complexions with medium colours are best suited to brown based mauves or sheer berry types of coloured lipsticks in a cream formula.

Reds, especially those with golden undertones rather than blue, are the best and most suited colours of lipstick for people with whitish complexions.
