Applying Bronzer

By tehreem | January 9, 2009

Follow these easy bronzing guidelines to safely maintain your sun goddess status all year round.

  • When choosing a bronzer, make sure it doesn’t appear too orange or frosted. A little shimmer goes a long way; too much shimmer can make skin look unnatural and harsh, especially mature skin. Never go more than two shades darker than your natural skin tone; bronzers are meant to warm your skin, not colour it.
  • Keep your make-up simple. If you are using a bronzer, don’t apply a coppery eyeshadow and lipstick. You don’t want your entire face awash in a sea of bronze. Instead opt for contrasts that enhance skin tone. Simplify eye make-up with a warm brown or black liner and a few coats of mascara. On your lips, use sheer, clear colours such as corals, reds or russets.
  • When using bronzers, apply little or no foundation. Keep colour as natural as possible. Too much foundation can leave your bronzer looking ‘muddy’ and artificial, ruining the effect. If you feel you need foundation, try a tinted moisturiser or sheer finish make-up instead.
  • Powder bronzers are best for oily complexions. If your skin is dry or you like a dewy finish, choose a cream, stick or gel to achieve your colour.

    How to Apply Bronzer

    By tehreem | December 29, 2008

Apply bronzer where the sun would normally warm the face, such as on tops of cheekbones, temples, bridge of nose and tip of chin. Avoid mixing bronzer into foundation or applying all over the face. To ensure proper application, be sure to use a large makeup brush with longer bristles.

    BRONZER TIPS

1 – Bronzer alone can appear dull. For a dewy look, apply cream blush to the apples of your cheeks. The combination of bronzer and cream blush is absolutely gorgeous.

According to makeup artist Bobbi Brown, bronzer looks best on days you don’t wear a lot of foundation.

2 – Keep foundation to a minimum when applying bronzer as this can make your complexion too orange and “dirty” when the bronzer is applied. Apply a little tinted moisturizer if you must.

3 – Apply a little pink blusher to your cheeks as well to give a more natural looking glow.

4 – You must apply bronzer with the correct kind of brush – a wide and fluffy powder brush will work best. My favourite bronzer brushes are big, thick and soft with LONG bristles. This ensures an even application without harsh lines.

5 – When applying any kind of bronzer, it is best to start with a light application and build from there. If you make a mistake and apply too much, wipe off with some cotton wool or apply some light face powder on top to lighten the colour.

    Picking and Applying Bronzer

    By tehreem | December 11, 2008

    Selecting bronzer

Bronzer is a terrific way to add a sun-kissed look to your skin without tanning. Your face bronzer should look natural – not orange or too dark. When selecting your bronzer, pick a color that is one or two shades dark than your natural tone. Select products with golden undertones.

Powder bronzer works well for those women with oily or combination skin, while liquid formulas are perfect for those with dry skin.

    Applying bronzer

For powder formulas – both pressed powder and loose powder, use a large fluffy powder or bronzer brush. The key to a natural looking glow is to avoid applying too much. You can always add more if you need it.

Swirl the brush into the bronzer powder and tap it to remove any excess. You want to apply the bronzer to the areas of your face that the sun would hit naturally – the forehead, nose, chin and apples of your cheeks.

Apply in by swirling the brush on your skin. This will distribute the product evenly. Use a circular motion and blend toward upward and outward. Keep blending the bronzer until it looks natural.

For liquid bronzer, you apply the product in the same manner, except this time add just a couple drops of bronzer onto a makeup sponge. Don’t worry about using too little. You can add more in layers. Use your sponge or fingertips to blend the color thoroughly.
