When using eye liner, I go back and forth from powders to pencils all of the time. I like the control I get with a powder and the way that I can blend it into a more smoky look. Then again, a pencil can be quick and easier, especially when going for a summer, easy look. Sometimes though, a pencil can be tough on my eyes. It is either too hard or soft, or just does not blend that way it used to.

With the introduction of Teint Miracle, Lancôme is hoping to shed new light on the foundation business. Billed as a next-generation foundation, it is designed to work on reemitted and reflected natural light with a proprietary technology.

Specifically, research has shown that approximately 5 percent of light is reflected off skin. Of the 95 percent absorbed, 40 percent is re-emitted through its surface. Factors such as aging, fatigue and dryness can minimize surface radiance. Inner light loses its intensity and purity as the bluish and pinkish hues of flawless, radiant skin are absorbed by melanin and decrease microcirculation.

MAC Film Noir Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, reddened brown–very dark, very vampy.  It doesn’t go black on me, but it is incredibly dark.  On me, the red tones help keep it from being too much of a contrast against my warmer skin tone and potentially washing me out.  This is a shade that longs to be the star of a look–just pair it with a little eyeliner, mascara, and a contoured cheek.

Lancome Pink Sapphire L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick ($29.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rich shade of slightly cooled medium pink with no shimmer, just a glossy sheen.   My favorite part about this particular shade of pink is that it’s not too cool–it’s not severely blue-based, which makes it wearable by both warm and cool skin tones with ease.  It has nearly opaque color pay off, but more importantly, it makes lips look lush, rich, and smooth.  The L’Absolu Rouge formula is silky smooth, creamy, and very moisturizing with nice wear–the more pigmented shades wearing five to six hours for me.

NARS Mangrove Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a mustard yellow with just a tinge of green. It has a satin sheen, and it’s nicely pigmented. This is a color you just don’t see very often, because it’s not always an easy to wear shade.

Mangrove is an interesting shade to work with, because it takes on much of the tones of whatever it’s paired with or layered on top of. When I used it with Palladium, it looked like a chartreuse green, but when I wore it over a regular eyeshadow base, I was able to get a much more true-to-pan kind of color.

I like the uniqueness of the color, which is something that would make compel me to get it. The quality is lovely, and it’s one of the better textured single shadows–very soft, smooth, but still pigmented. For those who have trouble pulling off warmer yellows and golds, Mangrove may be an answer to that problem–because it is as cool of a yellow as one can get!
