Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo Eyeshadows

Posted by admin On August - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

This fall luxurious textures and intense pigments have been all the rage among the high-end makeup lines, and while these duos may not look the part at first, they’re no exception.

Each one comes with a light cream shadow designed to be used as a base and a darker powder matte shadow for contouring and creating the illusion of depth.

Conveniently, skin is where these products really POP! — both in terms of color and texture — and being as smooth as they are makes them remarkably easy to blend.

How to Wear Turquoise Eye Makeup

Posted by admin On July - 28 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

There’s something about the color turquoise that brings about images of cool waters rushing along beaches in the Caribbean and Native American artists fashioning pristine jewels in the classic color.

And the bold shade is definitely in its prime as Pantone LLC has crowned Pantone 15-5519 Turquoise as the Color of the Year for 2010.

Lithe models donned turquoise eye makeup on the Spring/Summer 2010 runways of Nanette Lepore andDerek Lam. And celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba, and Amber Riley have all been spotted on the red carpet with the eye-popping hue.

“Turquoise makeup is a huge summer trend because it has a sexy tropical feel,” says Mathew Nigara, NYC New York Color makeup artist. “It can be whimsical and fun, as well as, look incredible on tanned, shimmering skin.”

When worn with all-black or crisp white and even its color cousin teal, turquoise eye makeup can make quite the statement when applied with a confident hand and a lot of imagination, according to Nigara.

Just keep in mind these simple tips from Nigara on finding a turquoise eye makeup look for your skin tone.

If you are fair to light skinned, use a shimmery taupe cream shadow like NYC New York Color Sparkle Eye Dust in Smokey Topaz with a bit of water and apply with finger from lid to crease. Apply turquoise shadow with a teal base like NYC New York Color Color Wheel Mosaic Eye Powder in Beyond The Sea with a Teal Eyeliner Pencil in the outer half of the eye and blend line under the eye with the same shadow. Pair it with a fresh face and subtle coral cream blush like NYC New York Color Blushable Creme Stick in South Street Seashell. For lips, smooth on a coral lip color with your fingertips to create a vintage ’70s look.

Best Concealers on the Market!

Posted by admin On June - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Dark circles, scars and acne haunt us and happen to pop up on the days when you least expect them (like your wedding day or the day you run into your ex on the street in your PJ’s).  Well it’s time to pick the best concealer. A good concealer will hide any skin flaw without leaving a trace.

1. Bobbi Brown creamy concealer.
This formula will cover the dark circles without falling into your creases. This basic product should be part of your daily makeup routine.
2. M.A.C Studio Sculpt concealer. A little amount of product will be sufficient enough to spread evenly over your eyelids. You can mix equal parts of concealer with moisturizer to get the shade you want.
3. Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. A perfect product to cover redness. Inflamed acne or scars can tend to be a bit red. This camouflage concealer comes in 2 shades to blend together and apply according to the extent of redness. Its yellow undertones make it easy to cover up both redness and broken veins.
4. YSL Touch Eclat. Now this concealer is pricey but one YSL concealer is sold every 20 seconds around the world. This pen is meant to be more of an illuminator rather than a concealer so don’t use it as cover up.

5. Sue Devitt Automatic Camouflage. Get the yellow/peachy one to efficiently cover up any dark spots.

One of the hottest colors in fashion and makeup this season is deep plum. That’s why I was excited to see that Bobbi Brown had brought back their Velvet Plum eye palette. This eye makeup collection is perfect for day-to-night wear.

This palette features an allover base shade, a lower lid color, a crease shade, an eye liner and a mini double-ended brush. The shades in this kit blend beautifully. You can use them altogether or wear them separately.

For those of you who find that rimming your lids with eyeliner make your eyes look tiny there is a move that’ll help.

On the bottom, not only is the line below her lashes (as opposed to inside the rim), but the line stops a little more than half-way in.

By keeping the liner a little lower, you create the illusion that your lids eyes are bigger than they really are and the stopping-half-way things keeps them from looking closed in. It’s less dramatic and smoky than going all the way around, but, hey, if you’ve been struggling with liner for awhile, it’s a good place to start.

Trend Alert: All-Over Eye Liner

Posted by admin On February - 26 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS
Who’s rocking the look in Hollywood, and how to pull it off

Actress Malin Akerman showed off all-around eye liner at the London premiere of her movie Watchmen last night—and she’s not alone! Many of the models on the fall runways have been wearing this rock-and-roll trend too: At Yigal Azrouël, makeup artist Polly Osmond said she used several shades of black to achieve bold peepers. But if thick, charcoal-colored eyes aren’t your thing, no worries—to soften the look, apply a lighter-hued shade along your lower lash line like Akerman did, or put your blending skills to good use: “Blending is key,” says NARS International Makeup Director Ayako. “
