Paris Haute Couture Fall 2010 Beauty Roundup

Posted by admin On July - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is dwindling down.

And as the top designers in the Parisian fashion industry unveiled breathtaking fall designs, hairstylists and makeup artists were busy creating masterpieces themselves on the models who strutted down the runway in the over-the-top pieces.

From towering hairdos to in-your-face eye makeup to Kate Moss-esque tousled tresses, we at StyleList are bubbling with excitement from these beauty trends.

Read on for the details on the top hair and beauty looks from the week in the City of Light.

Sculptural ‘Dos and Wild Makeup: The models at Jean-Paul Gaultier and Christian Dior sauntered down the runway wearing sky-high hairstyles that would make Lady Gaga, Snooki, and Judy Jetson blush. The ultra twisted and puffed ‘dos were rounded out by statement-making beauty: whimsical lashes, bold lips, and neon eyeshadows.

Sleek Strands and Dusty Lids: Straight hair and smoldering eye shadow will never go out of style. And the beauty teams at Elie Saab and Giorgio Armani Prive rounded out the luxurious pieces by perfecting looks that allowed the natural glow of the models to shine through. Armani Privé lead hairstylist Oribe channeled old Hollywood with super-soft strands that contained lots of body and shine. “It’s rich-looking with a bit of texture,” says Oribe. To recreate the hairstyle, apply Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray to achieve a soft blow out. And finish by spritzing on Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray to beat frizz.

Flashes of pink and peach accented an otherwise predominantly black, grey and nude collection for Stella McCartney in Paris yesterday morning. This acted as an appropriate introduction for the washes of colour that were to be seen later on in the day, at Emanuel Ungaro, Yves Saint Laurent and Kenzo, all of whom came over all girlie using fruity palettes of cerise and apricot for their beauty look. The Ungaro collection was a bright and eclectic one, so the face was relatively pared-down in comparison, with the only accent on the face being a sophisticated flush of pink on the centre of the lips and the apples of the cheeks. At YSL, however, the collection was mostly black with just a few notes of pink, green and blue in the final few looks, so designer Stefano Pilati used the models’ faces to breathe some freshness into the collection with rosebud eyes and raspberry lips. At Kenzo, make-up artist Tom Pecheux was peachy keen on the colour he described as a “dry mustard”, or off-orange, which he used on the eyes, temples and lips.

BEAUTY TREND: SPRING/SUMMER 2010 Lilac Time

Posted by admin On February - 5 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

A purple haze descended onto the catwalks for spring/summer, proving to be the most popular of the pastels. Whether it was the washed-out violet extensions in the hair of the edgy surfer girls at Proenza Schouler or the strong lavender lids contrasting the statement red lips at Dior, or even the doubling up of metallic mauve on eyes and lips by Dick Page at Michael Kors, one thing was for sure – beauty is having an ultra-violet moment. The most wearable way to wear the trend? Look to the pretty pastel girls at Versace, where make-up artist Pat McGrath buffed a gentle wash of lilac on the eyes, all the way up to the brows, with a slick of the same coloured liner along the upper lash line for added definition. The rest of the face was kept natural and bronzed – the perfect spring canvas. What’s more, lilac is also the hottest colour for nails this season.
